Required software for aa modem connection
Mac OS X comes with all the necessary software required to establish
a PPP connection.
Initating the Network Setup Assistant
The Network Setup Assistant is a program to help users
configure thier dialup connection
- Click on the Apple menu button located at the top left corner of
the screen.
- Click on "System Preferences..."
- The "System Prefrences" window should appear, find and click on the "Network" icon. (also known as "Network Control Panel").
- Click on the "Assist me..." button located at the bottem of the window, This will start the Network Setup Assistant.
Configuring the Dialup Connection (Network Setup Assistant)
- Start by giving the connection a name that will help you identify the connection later. Useing the ISP's name is standard practice. So in the "Location Name" enter "Getnet".
- Click Continue
- Here the Network Setup Assistant will ask you "How Do You Connect to the Internet?" select I use a telephone modem to dial my ISP.
- Click Continue
- The Network Setup Assistant should now say "Setting Up a Telephone Modem Connection..
- In the Account Name enter your username. If your local your username would be just "userid" if your useing a nationwide account the userid will be "userid@getnet.net".
- Next enter the password in the Password sections.
- ISP Phone Number: Enter the correct phone number, for local enter "602.324.1594" or "480.505.0269".
- Sometimes your computer will be connected to a Phone system, typically found at the office or in a hotel. If you normally have to hit 9 before dialing a outside phone number, put a 9 in the Number to Get an outside line: box.
- Make the correct selection for call waiting, if you dont know. Just leave
it as "No"
- Click Continue.
- Network Assistant will now ask you to "Set Up Your Modem" Typically it will list the current available modem, if its something other then what is listed, hit the drop down menu and select your modem
- The check box labeled "Ignore dial tone" is for special cases where the phone line doesn't have a dial tone, but still is able to make calls. If that is you, Check it.
- Click Continue.
- The Network Setup Assistant will now bring a screen labeled "Ready to Connect?"
- Click Continue to finish setting up the connection.
Congradulations, the Setup is now complete.
