Configure Dialup Networking in Windows XP.

click on start
then "All Programs" or just "Programs"
next find "accessories"
then "Communications"
now click on "Network Connections"

A new screen should pop up.
on the top of the screen find the word that says "File" and click it.
it will be next to Edit, View, Favorites, etc.

Go down to "New Connection" and click it

A new screen will pop up, and it will say "Welcome to the new connection wizard"

Great! click next.
Make sure Connect to the Internet is selected.
then click next.

This screen will ask "How do you want to connect to the internet?"
choose "Set up my connection manually" and click next

make sure connect using a dial-up modem is selected and then click next.

this screen will ask ISP Name. I would normally use Getnet.
the only reason this field asks this question is so it will be able to help
you identify the connections.
Click next.

It will ask for the Phone number here.
Enter the approperate number for your area.
you can find a list of these numbers here.

after you fill that field in, click next.

Here the computer will ask you for your username and password.
enter your user name.
(example jo-user@getnet.com is his email address, so his username would be jo-user)

and in the password field jo-user would enter his password, which is Passw0rd.
if jo-user enters password, or PASSWORD then jo's account will not be able
to log in, so double check your "Caps Lock" button located on your keyboard.

You will notice there are 2 check boxes, use this account name and password
when anyone connects to the internet from this computer.
If you have other people using the computer, you can uncheck this to deny
access to your dialup account from another user. (Users must be logged
into thier own profiles on the shared computer for this to work)

the other check mark states "Make this the default Internet connection"
It will change the defualt internet connection to this connection, if you
are using this connection tempararly or as a back up, uncheck this.

click next

Congradulations. if everything is setup correctly and your account is
active you should be able to connect to the internet now.
If you would like to add a shortcut to this connection on to your
desktop, put a check in the box and hit finish.

You are now complete.
