General Background: I was raised in a semi-rural
setting near Phoenix Arizona. Animals
and farms were part of my life. Fourth Grade was a turning point
in my life, the teacher took
the class to the small Library and by chance I found a series
of Walt Disney books on Animals
and nature. Until then I had little motivation to learn to read.
Since then I've been a voracious
reader. Animals may have been the start, but I branched off into
other subjects. The natural
sciences, astronomy and science fiction to name a few. About the
same time period my father gave me several books he had as a child,
nature books and one titled: 'Pal-O-Mine, King of the Turf".
Work History: Like many farm kids, thats
where I started working. General work on a
Chicken Farm. When I graduated from High School, I enlisted in
the U.S. Navy. I was selected
to join an Arizona 'All-State' Company for basic training in San
Diego. From there I received
orders to NAS Kingsville, TX. My first assignment was the aircraft
'Line Division', where I was
assigned as a 'Plain Captain'. The duties of a plane captain included
fueling & serving the aircraft in addition to pre and post
flight inspections. Plane Captains are also the ones who
'direct' the planes during take-off. You may be familiar with
the movie 'Top Gun', the deck
crew you see giving signals are 'Plane Captains'.
My next assignment was was the Airframes Shop, where
I did the equivalent of bodywork on
the aircraft until I was assigned to the 'Corrosion Control' Crew.
The Corrosion Control crew
was the 'Paint Crew'. I painted the aircraft.
From NAS Kingsville, I was transferred to VS-33 in
San Diego. Similar duties as Kingsville,
but on a ship, the U.S.S. Ticonderoga. Finally made the rank of
E-4.
Several years after my Honorable Discharge I decided
to go for something different. I
reenlisted in the Navy Reserves as a Photographer. Spent four
years in the reserves
learning a lot about Photography and a bit of leadership &
management. (They sent me
to Leadership and Management School).
In the civilian world I worked for a hospital in the
X-Ray darkroom developing for the
Radiology Department. When that job ended, I went back to College
& Trade School to
learn the Printing Trades and Computer Graphics. I graduated from
both programs and
now I'm working for a Printing company as a 'Platemaker'. I've
made both metal and
Flexography plates. I've also worked in the Bindery and Autographic
departments.
Schooling: In High School, Drafting, Art
and Wood shop were three of my favorite
classes. In College, I continued along these lines, but I branched
out to Photography, Anthropology, Stage craft, Theater and Computer
Graphics. I continue to take classes
at the Community College Level, with whatever class suites my
interest at the time.
Personal Projects and Interests: I've had
and interest in Genealogy for several
years. My research has placed my family in 19th century Brooklyn
and 17th century
Vermont. My goal is to trace all my family lines back to their
immigrant ancestor.
I have two areas I'm working on in Photography. The
first is Pinhole photography,
I've designed a pinhole lens mount for my Calumet 4x5 view camera
and I'm in the
process of designing a 'panorama' pinhole camera. The second area
of interest involves
Models. I'd like to develop my skills as a Model Photographer.
An organization called
'Arizona Models Day' (AMD) will be helping me along this line.
Keep an eye on my
photo galleries, I'll have some of the photos posted there soon.
Bringing it all together: You may have noticed
a trend here, an inclination toward
creative activities, learning and doing new things. The skills
I've learned during these
activities can be applied to many jobs. Feel free to contact me
if you have a position that
uses any combination of the above skills. I'm open to freelance
work, relocating or
changing careers.
